2013

> Next Meeting: June 22

Our next monthly meeting will be on June 22 at the Brooklawn Community Center.  As usual we will meet at about 7:45 for breakfast at the Metro Diner, and we usually wrap up afterwards with lunch there too!  See our meeting page for directions and maps info.

Note that we are having this month's meeting date coincide with the annual ARRL Field Day activity and our theme is "going to the field"!  While FD actually starts at 2pm, we will be discussing preparation, equipment, antennas and setup for portable operating during our morning meeting.  Joe and George will also be setting up the main station (Elecraft K2 and FT-817ND with a multi-band dipole) out in the Community Center parking lot. We'll provide instruction and opportunity for each person to sit at the station and tune around (or even operate if you wish! :o) during the meeting.  Then after a brief lunch break, Joe and George will be staying on to work the FD event from there for the rest of the afternoon and we certainly invite any/all to join in the fun with us then too!

> "Hands-On Homebrewing" presented at TCF 2013 by N2APB & N2CX

We had fun presenting at the TCF conference in Trenton on March 16 ... despite the snow storm encountered on the way home! We showed and discussed more than 50 simple homebrew projects that we've designed or used over the years here among the NJQRP gang.  We also brought some nifty serial displays (app and data notes) which may be useful in some of our projects going forward.

> Weekly TeamSpeak Sessions: "Chat With The Designers"

We are conducting bi-weekly TeamSpeak "Chat with the Designers" sessions every other Tuesday night at 8 PM Eastern (0000z Wed). We have collected some great sources of information and posted them in a web page called "NJQRP Resources", check it out at http://www.njqrp.org/resources/index.php.

> Micro908 Kit

The Micro908 is a multi-function, handheld computing platform that has a growing number of real useful purposes around the shack:  Antenna Analyzer, DSP-based Audio Filter, and (soon) PSK31 modem and a Software Defined Radio receiver.  All details and options can be found on the project web page at http://www.amqrp.org/kits/micro908.

> Elmer 160 Course - learn how to program PICs!

John McDonough, WB8RCR has designed an on line introductory course for learning how to program and use PIC micro controllers. As course instructor, he will start off with very basic principles, and take students to the point of designing their own PIC applications. While the focus will be on the PIC16F84 chip, principles are applicable to the entire range of micro controllers from Microchip.

> Inaugural NJQRP Skeeter Hunt

What a wonderful success!  The very first annual NJQRP Skeeter Hunt was arranged and coordinated by Larry, w2LJ. See the official NJQRP Skeeter Hunt Webpage or Larry's blog for all of the details.

> See Notes & photos of our Group Build

We had a great group build "Workshop" on Dec 11, 2011 at the Armstrong Hall Engineering Lab at the College of New Jersey. Great thanks to Professor Al Katz (the famous UHF ham) who let us use the engineering lab to continue the build-up of our Ensemble RX-II kits. A big thanks also to Joe Jesson, KC2VGL for arranging this venue. The Ensemble RX II is an all-HF band receiver kit that includes the components for building the receiver for HF operation (1.8 MHz through 30 MHz). We're looking forward to getting this compact little receiver working first with the PC, and then sometime later with a small project board (our follow-on group build) to eliminate the need for the PC. "We don't need no stinkin' PC!
